National Directors Visit Fallen Homes in Port-au-Prince

The collaboration of ICC National Directors in Haiti continued on Tuesday. The directors of the ICC offices in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Canada and the USA spent time planning the next steps for Grace Children’s Hospital, and toured Port-au-Prince, visiting the homes of some ICC Haiti staffers that were leveled in the earthquake. Their day included a visit to the home of Claudy St. Juste, ICC Haiti’s PR/IT director and a close friend of many ICC partners. Claudy and his family were killed in the earthquake.

More than 70% of ICC employees lost their homes in the earthquake; five employees are confirmed casualties, and others are still missing.  The losses are felt heavily among the staff; plans are in the works to offer even more emotional support to  the staff as they work through their grief.

Keith Mumma, the ICC USA national director, reports that many crews of volunteers were working to clear the streets of the city this week.

The evaluations of the Grace Children’s Hospital campus have shown that all the buildings damaged in the earthquake will need to be torn down and rebuilt.

As the visit continues, look for more updates tomorrow!
